A new Africa

By: Ania Listowell

Yes we've heard how our ancestors were sold into slavery.
Chains for days without food or water to wet their tongues.
We've seen their pains, we've heard their screams in our heads but I  want a new Africa.
Where leaders would be wise enough to know strong institution is better than foreign aid.
A new Africa where the black man would not beg for food when he is sitting on gold.
I want a new Africa, where leaders would not take voters for fools but give them food to feed their families.
I want a new Africa where men would not die in the ocean or walk on the desert to the white man's land for wealth when he has all he wants.
I want a new Africa of no corruption, no tribalism,  no nepotism, favouritism and gay!
A new Africa, where leaders would save in local banks not in foreign banks and expect economic boost. Is this stupidity or witchcraft?
I want a new Africa where leaders would think like, Thomas Sankara, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Robert Mugabe
I want I new Africa, one that our children can be proud of.
A new Africa where memories of our fathers would put smiles on our faces, not tears and regret of been an African.
I want a new Africa where we can be bold and say, the black man is capable of managing his own affairs. This is the new Africa .
